Frequently asked questions

What is MAP pricing?

MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) is the lowest price a brand allows resellers to advertise publicly. It is a floor on the advertised price, not on the price you may sell at in a cart or over the phone, and it is legal in the US as a unilateral policy.

How do I calculate a MAP price on Shopify?

Take MSRP and apply the brand's MAP percentage (commonly 80–90% of MSRP), or use the fixed MAP the supplier publishes. This calculator then checks the resulting price against your wholesale cost, Shopify fees and ad spend.

What is the difference between MSRP and MAP?

MSRP is the price the manufacturer suggests you sell at. MAP is the lowest price you are permitted to advertise. MAP is usually below MSRP, which is why margins get tight for resellers who discount to the floor.

Can I sell below MAP on Shopify?

You can generally sell below MAP as long as you do not advertise that price — hidden cart pricing, add-to-cart-for-price and coupon codes are common workarounds. Violating an advertising policy risks losing the supplier account.

What margin should a MAP-priced product make?

After Shopify Payments fees, shipping and ads, aim for at least 20–25% net margin at MAP. If this calculator shows a loss at MAP, renegotiate wholesale, cut customer acquisition cost or drop the SKU.

Does MAP include shipping?

MAP applies to the advertised item price. Free shipping offers can effectively lower the buyer's total, which some brands treat as a MAP violation — check the policy wording before advertising free delivery.
